Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation unit at Southeast Veterinary Specialists is a unique department that specializes in returning normal function after an injury or surgery. Patients are referred from our specialists as well as directly from local veterinarians. Robby Porter, our Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP), works closely with clients and their pets to achieve the best possible outcome.

For years human medical professionals have known about the benefits of physical therapy. Their patients heal quicker and are able to return to normal function after surgery or injury. Canine Physical Rehabilitation is similar to physical therapy in humans. In fact, many of the common therapies that are used in people today were originally tested on animals.

For many years, postoperative rehabilitation in veterinary medicine was ignored or limited to simple range of motion exercises. Recently, veterinarians, veterinary technicians and physical therapists have combined their efforts to bring veterinary post-surgical and injury care to a higher standard. Physical rehabilitation protocols have yielded fewer complications, improved function and better overall outcomes helping our family pets return to their normal lifestyles.
